Forte dei Marmi is the most well-known bathing place in Versilia coast on Tyrrenian sea. The town was built around the 'fortress', established by Leopoldo I in 1789 and still present in the central plaza. It has been for a long time the port from which the marbles from Alpi Apuane were shipped. The wharf - that enters the sea for 300 meters approx - still marks the point where marbles were loaded & shipped. Forte dei Marmi owes its economic growth and fame to the natural beauty and to the very good tourist organization. It is plunged in the green of its pinewoods, tree-lined roads and many gardens. Our town offers to the tourists a wonderful sea, a large beach with fine & golden sand, on which there are modern bathing establishment with very good equipments, well-known fashionable places - like 'Capannina' -, prestigious shops in the central roads, opportunities of enjoyments for all young people. |
